Hello HHR friends,
By now we’ve been bombarded with COVID-19 information, pandemic panic, and countless unknown scenarios. We’re stuck inside or wrapped up in our PPE outside. What can we control in this time of uncertainty?
No one has all the answers, but here are a few nutritional tips offered through yours truly and on behalf of Michigan Medicine.
Sleep for some people might have improved as a result of the stay at home orders, but for some it has worsened. For those who might be struggling with sleep, there are a few things you can control:
- Avoid COVID related media/news stories prior to bedtime. Say goodnight to your phone about one hour before bedtime.
- Enroll in a relaxation app that will teach deep breathing and other forms of relaxation or deep breathing. Many have offered free trials or discounts during this time.
- Try to keep a regular sleep schedule. Even though you might be able to sleep in a bit since you might not have a morning commute to work any longer, try to keep that alarm set to your typical workday wake time.
- Consider starting a gratitude journal. In the face of so much sadness in the world, find one thing each day that you enjoyed, that you appreciated, or that you are thankful for. Write it in your journal.
